The Bhagavad Gita was written by the god Ganesha, as told to him by the sage Veda Vyasa. The Bhagavad Gita presents a synthesis of various Hindu ideas about dharma, theistic bhakti, and the yogic ideal of moksh.
It is mentioned in Bhagavad Gita itself that first person who received the knowledge of Bhagavad Gita was sun god Surya. The Sun god told it to the Manu and then Manu told it to Iksvaku. So Bhagavad Gita is an ancient knowledge which is even older than Ramayana. But over time,it was lost and Sri Krishna again revived it in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. So all of the knowledge that was imparted to Arjuna was known in the ancient times.
Gita 4.1
śrī-bhagavān uvāca
imaṁ vivasvate yogaṁ
proktavān aham avyayam
vivasvān manave prāha
manur ikṣvākave ’bravīt
Translation
The Personality of Godhead, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, said: I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the Vivasvat or sun-god, Vivasvān or Vivasvān instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Ikṣvāku.
Bhagavad Gita deals with five topics.- Ishvara, the supreme controller. God.
- Jiva, the subordinate living being. Us.
- Prakriti, the material cosmos which encompasses everything not in 1 or 2.
- Time, without which there is no activity.
- Activity. Karma and it’s resulting reactions, what action is, what inaction is.
